Matthew Castle, Nuclear Regulator – Decommissioning Team at The Enviroment Agency

Matthew joined the nuclear industry in 1998 as a graduate trainee at Sellafield working in the High Level Waste Plants. He then transferred to Magnox and gained experience at operating and decommissioning sites, working in Radiation Protection and Environmental Protection at Dungeness A, Berkeley Centre and Oldbury Power Station. Matthew then moved to nuclear new build with Horizon Nuclear Power as Head of Radiation Protection and Environment where he gained experience in the Design Authority for the UK Advance Boiling Water Reactor design. Following the suspension of this project Matthew took the opportunity to become a Nuclear Regulator at the Environment Agency working in the Decommissioning Team and new nuclear permitting. Matthew has been involved with various standard setting groups such as the BAT working group, CEWG and IRPCG; he is a certificated Radiation Protection Adviser and Radioactive Waste Adviser.
